Indra Nooyi's 'My life in Full'

As someone who I've been following for a long time and been inspired by, and also being at this juncture of having to commit more to a family role while still not feeling like I've figured out a career, I was really looking forward to Indra Nooyi's book. I was looking for learning and inspiration. If I have to get a net-net summary from this book so far. 1. Not confirming to what the society expects of you all the time and excelling in what you shine at.  2. Hard work and intellectual acumen.  3. Throwing oneself into solutions and results.  4. Not judging the product you work for or the timings and effort you put in. Highest degree of work commitment and ethics.  5. Coping mechanisms for family time. 6. A good support system - within family and out. 7. Cultural barriers and learning culture. 8. Paying loans, buying houses. 9. Maternity leave, care for family, self care. 10. Pay equity. 11. Success / Popularity and the distance it creates with people. Some peop...

Level 0 to where?

So I made a list of what I want to study on Sep 13 and a list of chores and other things I want to try earlier. Here are my updates from today : 25th.  I know there's a lot of things I want to do - mommy stuff, study stuff, home maker stuff, fun stuff, fin stuff. And I also know there's only limited energy and learning curves with everything. So here's a Level plan starting from level 0 promoting to wherever my body allows me to go. I also want to shortlist the varied interests so I can weed out things if at all I do get the time/energy to do things. I'll be okay if level 0 is all I can do, but having dreams and references are always good.  Level 0 - before baby arrives - Work - scripts / PF suspensions / eComm / hiring. - hospital bag / Health / checkups - Konmari - Shopping - Letters / gifts - Nanny / day care short list / food - h1b / S - maternity leave Level 0.5 - Baby Red Tape SSN / birth certificate / passport / OCI / CA Level 1 - Baby, me  Brush / Bathe / Water...

Finance Actions I took this month

Being offended and de-escalation levels

Disclaimer : I have strong opinions and I get easily offended. I am only a learner when it comes to managing offending or being offended, but here's my learning that I wish to be able to follow myself. So when someone get's offended there are a few things involved : - Person 1 - Person 1's intention - Person 1's words - Person 1's bias - Person 1's context about a current situation - Person 1's mood - Person 1's memory of history with Person 2 - Person 2 - Person 2's listening - Person 2's interpretation - Person 2's bias and triggers - Person 2's mood - Person 2's context about a current situation - Person 2's memory of history with Person 1 We can find ourselves on either sides of this equation : Being the offender or the offended. If we are emotionally intelligent there are a few things we aim for : - We want peace.  - We want to get things done.  - We want to keep relationships.  - We want to be aware of our bandwidth in life...

Insights Discovery - Being your kind of strong

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pq_tCgDkT4 In order to understand others you need to understand yourself , first. It's very important. It's a constant process. The everyday chaos of life and our minds is a great place to learn about yourself. Don't shun yourself from the rest of the world for too long. That world is part of your reality. Always face it , no matter how hard it sometimes feels. Go do new things, difficult things, meet difficult people, meet different people. That's your playground for finding out you who you are and making yourself better.  You may not like what you find out about yourself, at first. But when you grow you think about it differently. Instead of looking at weaknesses , you look them at human traits of yourself that you are aware of. You take them as opportunities for improvement.  The most important thing you realize when you are self aware is that you don't have to be strong in every way. When you know your strength you can first tap...

How to read stock charts as a trader and investor with Ruben Leija

There's so much to learn just about the basics of stocks, but while that is happening I'm also seeing passionate people making daily bets based on stats. There's a long way to go before I get comfortable with this, but today I'm going to go over a recorded webinar one of my colleagues took, and he's the one passionately talking about bets every day. I'm at least going to try and make sense of something to start with. Rough notes (some time first person, sometimes 3rd person, need to put images in ) How to read stocks as a trader and investor with Ruben Leija Short term < 1 year Long term > 1 year The stock market will tell you, not your boss / not the guru on twitter / or your neighbor 5 indicators: 5 day exponential moving average - EMA(5) - Related to more recent pricing 20 day moving average: MA(20) - average number of days and price of stock 200 day moving average MA(200) Relative strength index : RSI set to 14 days - Measure the speed and change of p...

Masterclass Updates

A couple of Masterclass updates I did take one on Interior designing months back and my brain is blank because I did not take notes. Here's notes from Elaine Welterworth's Designing Your Career: - She started with a system very similar to the Ikigai system with 4 quarters : Talent, Passion, Skills, Values. Except there was one key way it differed from ikigai in that she defined values as "What are things that matter to you more than money? And why?" and that's a very interesting question. - She mentioned how we need to excavate our childhood to understand what our true values are, before the world interfered with our thinking. - One thing I really liked was when she spoke about Joy Containers. I just watched a few episodes of Sparking Joy and I am starting to see how it's easy to ignore joy in our days. - When making career changes she asked this question "Are we at the point of diminishing returns?" - Is it possible to hit finance goals without thi...
